How We Research

We help readers understand bank accounts and fees before they open one.

Who decides what we cover

We do. Topics are chosen because readers need them, not because someone has paid for them. Our disclosure page explains how the site is funded.

Where our facts come from

Our guides draw on information published by regulators and official bodies such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Reserve, along with providers’ published terms.

How articles are produced

Our articles are researched and drafted with AI tools. Before a draft can be published, an automated fact-check compares each specific figure, date and rule in it with the official or primary sources it was written from. Claims that can’t be matched to a source are taken out, and a draft that still doesn’t pass isn’t published. Articles aren’t individually reviewed by a person before they go live, so reader reports matter to us. We’re responsible for every article on the site, however it was produced.

Research, not testing

Our guides are based on research. Where an article involves products or services, we haven’t tested them ourselves unless we clearly say so.

Keeping guides current

Rules, limits and prices change. When we learn that something in an article is out of date, we correct it, and we encourage readers to confirm time-sensitive details with the official source.

Fixing mistakes
